Expanding TalkSwitch

The TalkSwitch family of telephone systems allows you to choose a size that fits your needs today, then add more call capacity when your company grows.

Up to 64 users per location

TalkSwitch covers up to 16 traditional phone lines, 16 VoIP trunks and 64 local extensions per location. With a modular architecture and intelligent networking capabilities, TalkSwitch flexibly fits a wide variety of office configurations and protects your investment as you grow.

Which TalkSwitch is for me?

To plan your ideal TalkSwitch system, figure out how many phone lines, extensions and VoIP trunks you need. Does each employee need a phone? Are there other phones required, such as a courtesy phone in your lobby? Add them up for the number of extensions you need.

Your total number of lines and VoIP trunks is the maximum number of simultaneous calls your system will handle. So if you expect to have lots of people on the phone at the same time, you’ll need capacity for more lines or VoIP trunks than if you have very light call traffic.

You can increase capacity any time by adding IP Extensions, upgrading or networking units. Your options depend on the model (or models) of your existing TalkSwitch system.

Networking TalkSwitch

You can combine up to 4 units, adding up the lines, extensions and VoIP trunks:



The networked system also has all of the remote extensions and voicemail boxes of the individual units combined. New units added on the network automatically find your existing system and clone your established configuration settings. The networked units work as a single, unified system.

TalkSwitch plugs into your LAN with standard Ethernet cabling. TalkSwitch VS models can all be networked together, as long as they're all running the same version of the TalkSwitch software. VS units can be networked with TalkSwitch 48-CA and 48-CVA units.

Adding IP extensions

The easiest, fastest and most economical way to expand your extension capacity is by adding 8 IP extensions to a TalkSwitch VS, 48-CA or 48-CVA unit. TalkSwitch Additional IP Extensions are sold by license code, so you can activate them as soon as you buy the license. Just add IP phones.


 

Upgrading TalkSwitch

Many TalkSwitch models can be upgraded to add capacity. The maximum capacity per unit is 4 traditional lines, 8 local extensions and 4 VoIP trunks. TalkSwitch upgrades come in several capacities:

240plus: Adds 2 traditional lines and four extensions. The 240plus converts a TalkSwitch 244vs into a 484vs. Buy now >>

To upgrade a TalkSwitch unit, you remove the lid and add an upgrade board. It's a relatively simple operation, and the circuit boards come with easy instructions. Your TalkSwitch reseller can also install upgrades for you. In a few rare cases, it may be necessary to return a TalkSwitch unit to us so that we can perform the upgrade.

Expanding older TalkSwitch systems  

Although we no longer manufacture the TalkSwitch 24, 24-CA and 48-NLS systems, there are some options available if you want to upgrade one of them.

TalkSwitch 24
TalkSwitch 24 units can be converted to TalkSwitch 48-LS or 48-NLS units, adding 2 lines, 4 local and 8 remote extensions. Add the TalkSwitch 24 Upgrade. TalkSwitch 48-NLS
TalkSwitch 48-NLS units can be upgraded to TalkSwitch 48-CA units, but we require you to send your 48-NLS to us to do the upgrade. Alternatively, we carry a limited quantity of TalkSwitch 48-NLS units for purchase by existing NLS users to increase system capacity.
